Whew! Vegas kicked my ass, food-wise. I ate way too much. I had great plans about how controlled I'd be...I wouldn't drink (I did), I'd eat reasonably (I didn't) and I'd exercise (hey...I did!).
We stayed at the Bellagio, which I can assure you, as a former inhabitant of The Plaza downtown, we are not regular guests. However, this being a milestone birthday and the fact they had some screamin' deals, we stayed there. It's a nice hotel. I wouldn't fall all over myself to stay there again, but sure, it's nice. They have a beautiful Botanical Gardens area with a Fall theme and a mighty nice tree Ent.
Here's me playing my favorite Wheel of Fortune machine. I didn't win. You'll notice I'm in workout clothes. That's right. I went to the hotel fitness center and did my little walk/jog routine.
We mostly played blackjack tables, but the casinos typically won't let you take pictures at the tables, so no photos of that.
We went to the Bellagio buffet, but because I blog anonymously and couldn't figure out a way to explain why I'd be taking pictures of my food, I don't have any pictures of my food. Suffice it to say, it's amazing. More food than one person should be eating in one sitting, ever. I had two plates and tried like three desserts. I felt disgusting afterward.
Just being honest.
We saw lots of hookers. Or maybe they were just dressed kinda ho-like. I dunno. I'm old now. I can't keep up with how the young people dress anymore.
They have a double-decker bus in Vegas called The Deuce. Well, I said no to the deuce (hardy har har) and took a cab most places. Of course I walked a little bit, but I had some new boots and they were quite stylish but not very comfortable.
And my big confession: I weighed myself. I failed at my attempt to last a month away from the scale. After my horrible eating in Vegas I just had to see the damage and it wasn't pretty. I'll wait to post my weight this Thursday, my new regular weigh day. I'm going back to daily weighing. Yes, it drives me a little batty, but I feel like a ship without a sail not weighing daily. The not knowing is worse for me than the knowing, even if it's bad news.
Mostly, just happy to be back to routine so I can continue working to get in shape and stay there. Thanks for reading and thanks for all the happy birthday wishes.
The whole truth and nothing but the truth…

12 Thanks for supporting my habit:
I'm so proud of you for getting a workout in on your vacation! That is a victory right there!!!
Hmmm, overeating in the buffet...how I understand that after our daily breakfast buffets last month - oh well, it's over now.
Isn't the Bellagio where Oceans Eleven was set?
BTW, cute picture - love your curly hair!
I'm glad you had a good time! Way to go!
Your back is very cute!
Oh well-- milestone birthday, good hotel food-- wouldn't worry about it. Once in a blue moon, it qualifies as a carb refeed, right?
Milestones are meant to be remembered. Glad you had fun.
Vegas buffets - so good but sooo bad!
But you worked out. That's great. Buffets at Vegas now that's a treat. You don't do it often and it was a milestone celebration. You'll get back to business. No need to be so hard on yourself.
Funny, Ocean's Eleven is on tv and I'm watching it partly and it's in the Bellagio :)
Your trip sounds great and you did workout. As I've said before: you only turn 40 once so I think you had every right to enjoy the food!
Sounds like you played hard and made some memories. Really , how often do we get to be on vacation? You've got all the rest of the 99.99999 part of the year to diet. Hookers in vegas? Never heard of such a thing!
Hi Amy. Well I think you're entitled to eat anything at all on your 40th birthday. I'm sure you'll get back to healthy eating ASAP - esp with that motivation on the scale.
I think a month away from the scale is a long time. But daily weighing is a lot. Perhaps there is a compromise at once or twice a week?
Best wishes,
Bearfriend xx
You know, it was a celebration, don't worry about it. It's awesome that you are back in the habit now! That's what matters!
you worked out!!! thats great, and hey vegas is THE city, created to indulge and avoid possitive behavior - you could've done a lot worse. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move forward :) you're doing great
Sounds like a well celebrated birthday, so no regrets! 40 is a good milestone, but talk to me when you hit 55 if you think you feel old now!
I'm just back from our trip to the DR and trying to catch up on blogs. Yours is one of the first I wanted to see. I'm with you about feeling rudderless when I'm not weighing more than once a week or less. I'm going to weigh this morning (Thursday) and we'll see the tally from the trip. Anyway - love your humor and your blog. And I'm still up for that mountain climb this summer.
